Each restoration is a fresh implementation of the original rules on a modern engine, so it can be fixed, extended and ported instead of frozen inside a virtual machine.
Bring your own copy
We ship no original art, audio or data. Every restoration imports assets from a copy you legally own, usually the GOG release, and verifies them before it starts.
Fidelity is measured
Every project tracks a parity matrix against the original: which rules match, which are approximated, and which are still missing. Nothing gets called done on vibes.

Chaos Overlords: New Chrome is now playable from setup through to any of the original victory conditions, on Windows, Linux and macOS. It is a rebuild on MonoGame, written from scratch, reading art, audio and data tables from a copy of the 1996 original that you own.

There are two ways to keep a 1995 game running in 2026. You can wrap it: DOSBox, a compatibility shim, a virtual machine with a frozen driver stack. Or you can rebuild it: read the data files, work out the rules, and implement the thing again on an engine that will still compile in ten years.
